WHAT IS THERAPY/COUNSELLING/PSYCHOTHERAPY?

Therapy, also called psychotherapy or counselling, is a process of meeting a therapist, over either short or long-term periods, to help you bring about effective change or enhance your wellbeing.
My role as a therapist is to support and enable you to explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviours openly and freely. All information shared between us will remain confidential (unless someone is at risk of harm) to ensure that a strong, trusting, safe relationship can be built.

WHAT IS PSYCHODYNAMIC THERAPY?

My personal experience and my training have informed my understanding and my practice of psychodynamic therapy. I believe humans are connected with and influenced by their past, cultures, families and so on. I believe a person’s past, whereas their past experiences or their past relationships, can hugely inform or shape how they behave, think and interact with other people. Therefore, I put emphasis in the relational side of therapy, which means I consider therapy is not just simply a one-way street to solutions, by forming a safe and trusted relationship in therapy, it is also a road towards greater actualisation of who you are as a human being. By forming such relationship, the past or the present might be replayed again in the counselling process, and by looking at those re-occurring themes, we might be able to open a door to discover something you have not noticed before. And by being more aware of the unknown, you might be able to find a new way to relate or view your worries, stress or your existing relationships.

WHAT I OFFER

It can be a daunting process to start your counselling journey. It takes a lot of effort and courage to lay your innermost thoughts and feelings bare, especially if you have felt you were misunderstood, neglected, dismissed or hurt before. Therefore, I strive to make sure you are supported as much as possible by providing an empathetic, holding and containing environment. I aim to create a space where you can show your true self, be accepted, be afraid, be vulnerable, and where you can take steps at your own pace.

Counselling is not a magical quick fix, but in my experience it can give you new insights and promote personal freedom.
